Socks as a Pair - Twins

The socks from my own dye job are off the needles and drying. This photo taken before their bath show the perfect match. I am not sure that some of the other self striping yarns I have used in the past even gave me these results. You note probably that I made them short. Since the color is pretty "spring" in my mind, I thought this length would be good. I also used the Picot Edge Bind-Off from Knitty. I liked the little ruffly edge this bind off created, and it looks great with the short cuff. I don't think I'd do that extra work for something hidden under a pant leg.

My only regret here is that the socks are too large, for me. I knit these on 1's, and I truly think this yarn, at least for the way I knit, needs to be done on 0's. The yarn itself is soft, and stretchy, and I just like a tighter fitting sock. That aside, for the price and the yardage, it is a real deal. I made the short cuffs, they cover my ankles, and yet I still had 200 yards of yarn left. Plenty for a pair of child socks. I figured that the 50 rows in the foot took about 44 yards, so even adding another 88 yards to the total I used would have still left me with 100+ yards of yarn.

As far as trying to hand paint my own stripes goes, it was worth the effort and I am quite pleased with the results. Next time I will do the following:
Wrap a bit tighter on the board, so the stripe lengths are shorter - because I need to knit with smaller needles, and don't want too much overlap on the stripes.
