These are the original three colors of pink that were in the I oz. of roving we were given and these pictures were taken in January. It took me awhile to decide how to approach the project and what I wanted for a finished product.

I dyed a Wool Top and a Mohair/Wool Mix with Wilton Cake Gel, then carded the two together. These were dyed in the middle of February, and carded then on a borrowed drum carder.

The added brighter pink came from a mix of Alpaca, Mohair, Llama, and Wool. This 1 oz. piece was purchased on Ebay and blended into the darkest of the three original pinks in layers. I also lightened the softest pink, so there would be more contrast.

In March I layered the 6 batts I had made. Some were long narrow stripes of the three pinks, and some were thin batts of green and pink with narrow segments of cranberry and chocolate alpaca added as accent. Then the attenuating began in earnest, This is not a quick process. I somehow never documented the actual spinning, though it was not terrible exciting. I did thee bobbins, and then Navahoe Plyed the singles to make a three ply yarn. The actual spinning was finished on May 4th.

For the presentation I felt the green accents were not obvious enough, hence the green container and doily (seen it before?) and the whimsical touch of the M & M's from Easter. I was very pleased with the final result, and happy with it. The fact that it won the Guild Fiber Challenge was very satisfying, because I knew I had put a great deal of time and thought into the process. I hope you enjoy the pictures. As always, click on any of them and you should be taken to a larger image in Flickr.
